My great grandfather would allow no one else in his garden except a 6-year-old girl who picked more plants than weeds. And he still loved me.
On my 1st attempt at building a large garden I thought I was smart. I used all the stall clearings from my horses. Lesson learned. Untreated barn sweepings contain a lot of seeds. Always use real soil. We ended up covering it with cardboard and landscape cloth and made a really big rock garden.
At the end of last summer, I picked all the beans that the beautiful greenhouse gave me, brought them home and canned them. Still eating them, but damn they are good!"

I always enjoy having fresh vegetables and herbs in my house and being a part of the garden has made that an easily accessible thing. I have been apart of the garden since early 2019 and was pleasantly surprised at the level of commitment and creativity that the board has. The teamwork and love of gardening, as well as the vast knowledge from the other members, has made my experience a wonderful one. I am excited to be apart of the board and learn from all my fellow garden lovers!

I came to Canada in 1979 to have my own self-sufficient farm and raise a family on home grown vegetables and meat. Now that I'm older I'd like to help others to grow their own food and experience the energy that comes from fresh greens and a good talk with community garden friends.

I was introduced to gardening young. My Metis grandfather was an avid gardener. He won every year for his prize flower garden displays. He was also very committed to the cherry tomato plants he grew in the back. As a child, my mother spoke of the energy our old pear tree would give and I had no idea. She would assign my brother and I the task of weeding the beds and so daily, I would go to our old pile of weeds and fill my bucket and then cover the top with freshly picked weeds. I was more interested in playing in the mud and building forts then. I have recently started gardening myself and I hope that my children will too also reap the rewards. Eating all organic can get pricey plus gardening makes me happy; voila problems solved. Here I am!

I joined the community garden 3 years ago and love the garden community. My favourite crops are potatoes, basil, and tomatoes. I’m keen to learn more about soils and growing different plants.
